Velpanex is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing sofosbuvir and velpatasvir to treat hepatitis C in adult patients.

What is The Competition?

Each film-coated tablet contains Sofosbuvir INN 400 mg INN & Velpatasvir INN 100 mg

Why is it used?

It is used to treat adult patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV)

  • Without cirrhosis or compensated cirrhosis
  • With decompensated cirrhosis for use in combination with Ribavirin.

Mechanism of Action

Velpanex is a direct-acting antiviral agent that works by inhibiting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.

Dosage Instructions

The recommended dose is one tablet daily, once with or without food.

  • Treatment for cirrhosis or compensated cirrhosis is 12 weeks
  • Treatment for decompensated cirrhosis is (VELPANEX+ Ribavirin) 12 weeks

Contradiction 

Patients who can not take Ribavirin and any other chemical substance in the sofosbuvir and velpatasvir.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Risk of hepatitis-B virus reactivation in patients coinfected with HCV and HBV
  • Serious symptomatic Bradycardia when co-administered with Amiodarone.
  • Risk of reduced therapeutic effect due to concomitant use of Velpanex
  • Risk associated with the Ribavirin and Velpanex combination treatment

Use in a specific population

Pregnancy

No adequate data if sofosbuvir and velpatasvir cause risk to pregnancy outcomes. Consult your doctor before using this medication in pregnancy 

Lactation

It is not known whether the component of VELPANEX or its metabolites are present in the human breast milk, affect human milk production or harm infants.

Female and Male reproductive potential

If it is used in combination with Ribavirin, it may affect the fertility of both males and females. Contraception is recommended for both.

Pediatric use

Safety and effectiveness have not been established yet, or there is insufficient data to support the use of this medication in children.

Geriatric use

No dosage adjustment needed.

Renal Impairment

No dosage adjustment required for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment.

Hepatic Impairment

No dosage adjustment required for the patients with mild, moderate or severe hepatic impairment.

Overdoses

No specific antidote is available for VELPANEX overdose. If you overdose, consult your doctor.
